How Does Hurricane Katrina Continue to Affect the Animals Left Behind?
South Florida Dog Rescue Group is looking for the community to donate hurricane relief funds to rehabilitate dogs that are severely traumatized from Hurricane Katrina.

Boca Raton, FL June 6, 2005 -- It's the start of a new hurricane season and dog rescue groups still struggle to place dogs that were severely traumatized by Hurricane Katrina. Many of the dogs that were left behind were rescued from the rooftops in New Orleans, and because they were most likely homeless before the hurricane, the severe trauma has only made their fear of humans and other animals worse.

"How does Hurricane Katrina continue to affect the animals that were left behind?" Jamie Wolf, the founder of Rescue Rehab Home of South Florida responds to questions about the Hurricane Katrina animals that were left behind, "For the ones that have fared the worst, these dogs need training, socialization and TLC before they can be adopted out to new families."

Rescue Rehab Home of South Florida is working with The Best Friends Animal Society to have some of these Hurricane Katrina victims sent to their South Florida dog rescue group so Eddie Panzano, a Boca Raton animal behaviorist, and the staff at Rescue Rehab Home can help socialize them and ultimately get them "adoptable".

"It takes a tremendous effort in time and money to get these traumatized dogs rehabilitated to start their new lives at forever homes," tells Ms. Wolf, "The Training Partners Program, started by The Best Friends Animal Society, is the vehicle to rehabilitate some of the traumatized and hard to place dogs from Hurricane Katrina using the best trainers in the country. We are looking for the community to donate hurricane relief funds to help our South Florida dog rescue group participate in taking care of these deserving animals."
